The Breakers’ Employee Housing Project: What It Means for West Palm Beach

May 1, 2026

,

The Breakers Palm Beach is moving forward with a new employee housing project in West Palm Beach, highlighting one of the biggest issues facing Palm Beach County: workforce housing. Recently, an affiliate of the resort purchased land along North Australian Avenue, where it plans to build housing reserved for Breakers employees.

What Is Being Planned?

The Breakers’ affiliate purchased 2.4 acres at 2410–2508 North Australian Avenue for a combined $9.1 million. The group also owns a nearby property at 2600 North Australian Avenue, purchased in late 2024. Together, the sites are expected to become an eight-story apartment complex with 155 units. The project was approved by the West Palm Beach City Commission last year.

Why It Matters

Palm Beach County has become increasingly expensive, especially for hospitality, service, and seasonal workers. When employees cannot afford to live near where they work, it affects businesses, traffic, commuting patterns, and the overall quality of life in the area.

This project is considered one of the first large-scale employer-backed housing developments in Palm Beach County, making it an important example of how local employers may respond to housing challenges.

Who Will Live There?

Residents will be required to work for The Breakers, and the units are expected to primarily serve seasonal and temporary staff. With more than 2,400 employees, The Breakers relies on a large workforce to support its resort operations.

What Residents Should Watch

For West Palm Beach residents, this project could bring new activity, density, and investment to the North Australian Avenue corridor. It also reflects a larger trend: housing, employment, and real estate are becoming more closely connected.

As the area continues to grow, staying informed matters. If you are buying, selling, or trying to understand how local development may affect your property, I can help you connect these changes to your real estate goals.
